Todays Offering - a bit more info :-)

Hiya
Well went to see Clare yesterday (Transplant Nurse) and had a good chat about the harvesting of the stem cells - we get that done first then we will discuss the transplant or its just information overload for my little brain!
Has a few tests yesterday - loads and loads of bloods, ecg, chest x-ray - still got to have mri scan (6th Aug) and lung function test (27th July) but lets all keep our fingers crossed these are ok and this can still go ahead otherwise I shall feel totally robbed and hugely disappointed!!
All being well with the tests I shall do all the consent stuff on the 13th Aug.

The the plan is:
21st, 22nd, 23rd August - I get to stab myself with needles twice a day (just call me lucky) I need to inject myself with with G-CSF its a growth factor injection so my body make loads and loads of stem cells for harvesting.

Then on the 24th, 25th, 26th August - if I have enough stem cells (if not enough cells I will need more injections).

I will be admitted to Guys for the harvesting - as I have really bad veins in my arms they cant do it as an outpatient and need to go in through my femoral line (groin) and I cant be wandering around South East London with a tube hanging outta my groin now can I lol, all being well they will get sufficient cells and pop them in the freezer for transplant later on.

The hormone factor can make you a bit achey in some joints n stuff and a bit feverish but nothing too major.

Well thats about it really for todays offering - if you really want to read up on all this you can go to Leukaemia Research or Macmillan Cancer websites and look up stem cell transplants - its the same procedure for the treatment of crohn's as is for cancer.

I will let you know if anything else interesting happens - if not it will be quiet here for a couple of weeks :-)

Bye for now
Paula xx

p.s. If you new to all this as I am!! The newest messages are at the top of the page - just click on the archive link on the right hand side to read older messages - it might make more sense then lolololol or not!!

Growth factor injection?! ... does that mean you're gonna be 6ft the next time we see you? pmsl!

Nice to hear that you're gonna be getting a regular prick and twice a day too ... bet that's not happened in a long time ;)

I'm also sure that there's plenty of people walk round South East London with a line hanging out of their body somewhere lol ... dunno why they can't let you!

Quiet.... for a couple of weeks? What am i gonna do? Who else can i stalk?

Speak laters and take care

Hiya Rach
Nice to meet you (virtually), and many thanks for looking in and the good luck wishes.
I am hoping to keep this blog going throught this process, hopefully even throwing in the odd bit odd humour, and lots of reality! I wish your hubby well with his crohn's its not the best disease to get as I am sure you are very aware.
Take care
Paula :-)
