Hi All

Yup it’s me again!!

Had a Gastro appt last week – all seems ok, keep getting a pain in my right side may have a bit of narrowing going on at a join in my intestine so gonna keep an eye on that, apart from that all seems ok.

Had a check up at Haematology Tuesday – everyone seemed very happy – bloods looked good, put on some weight about 9 stone now – yup I’m a fat baldy lol but hey Rachael (the dietician) is happy and trust me it’s hard to make Rachael smile lol,
So now just a waiting game really – waiting to get better ………… waiting to get sick lol

But I do kinda find myself in an odd situation – or different situation – physically and psychologically!

With the Crohns as unpredictable as it is, I kinda got to know the sign and symptoms having had it for so long so in some ways always knew where I stood or what to look out for.

With this transplant and being formatted (immune system wiped) so to speak and having to be so so so careful of germs and virus’ it is kinda strange ……………….. Sometimes find myself sitting round waiting to get sick!! As gotta be careful for months, so its all very strange and so far I have been quite well (well not a bad a predicted) – really tired but not too bad.
Ooh and the tiredness is different! Yeah weird I know! Used to feeling fatigued with the Crohns, body used to give in first followed by the head but this is the other way round my head/brain gives up first its like I hit a mental wall – then the body follows (I think it has no choice as brain too knackered to make it move lol)

Well thats about it - dont go back to hospital til the 7th and 8th Dec unless summat goes wrong!!

Bye for now P xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Brave Little Soldier ...... Not!

Hi All
Had clinic appt Tues which went well n don't wanna see me for 2 weeks which is great - just a bit concerned cos white cell count was quite high - but had to go back to day unit again today and it has gone down so that's good :-)
Had my Hickman line removed today - ouchhhhhhhh!! well actually I was really brave when they put the local anesthetic in - Gemma the nurse on the other hand was a complete wimp and I had to hold her hand - PMSL, that was the worse bit the rest was just pressure - Im sure it will hurt a bit later when the bruising comes out as it was well n grown truly in there!! - But Gemma n Katherine were great :-)

That's kinda it really - all going well so far :-) :-) :-) still trying to stay germ free!

Just saw one of the doctors - maybe in a few days i.e. when count goes up to 0.5 I can leave the room i.e. walk on the ward!.

Well that kinda all i can say really as not alot happening at all,

Managed to get my neutrophiles up to a whopping 0.1 lololol all by myself without the GCSF! SO THERE!!

Thats cool - Im impressed, also had a visit from Vinnie (Dentist) he stuck my tooth/goldcap back on so that was cool too.

Oh but some other count or other has dropped :-( so gotta have a couple of bags of bag of blood! - Thankyou to all the wonderful blood donors out there :-)

P xxxxxxxxxxxxx Counting, counting, counting lol

(this message should have been posted yesterday but was a small Internet problem)

Blood count still oh whole fat ZERO! - probably will be til Saturday when I start to have some more GCSF (injections like before to stimulate my stem cells for my harvesting, grown hormone factor stuff) - well not alot to tell ya cos I cant escape - but if I run to the door when they take the bins out I can see outside lol - yeah I know I gotta window ................ but its a 'different' bit of outside!!

The Chemo is doing it's job .....................

Well the chemo is doing it's job - (sorry Jill, have to put in the nasty bits too) bloods are dropping as off yesterday morning I am officially Neutropenic - very low blood counts - i.e. the chemo is working - killing off all the old cells - then the stem cells will eventually grow, grow, grow replace the old immune system, yeah thats about it really lol.

So I am locked in my room - I am allowed visitors - HEALTHY ONES ONLY!! - not feeling too bad yesterday/today so far - but gotta hit the bottom before you can climb the ladder back up again.

It is kinda odd not being allowed out feel like a prisoner lol.

luv to all

Week One – Short breakdown: HONEST IT IS ....... JUST LOOKS LOTS!!

Sorry peeps probably more for my benefit than yours
To help with the boredom – as feeling ok at the moment
Summat too look back on in the future
also if the entry is that boring it might help me sleep lol or you :-)

DAY 1 – SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER 2009 - Chemo

DAY 2 – SUNDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2009 - Chemo

DAY 3 – MONDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2009 - ATG DAY – the rabbit stuff, no initial reaction, that followed.
More chemo – yeah I know repetitive aint it lol

Day 4 – TUESDAY 20TH OCTOBER 2009 - ATG – RABBIT DAY 2, had a slight reaction, temperature, feeling unwell for a good few hours but soon passed.
Carol popped up to see me briefly as poorly and Michael came to visiting in the evening so all in all turned into a good day.

DAY 5 WEDNESDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2009 - Met Lisa outside visiting hours downstairs had a wicked hour or so having coffee n McD’s for lunch (well it is in the same road so considered ‘on site’ well is in my eyes).

DAY 6 – THURSDAY 22ND OCOBER 2009 - Lots of lots of peeing thanx to the meds, as managed to gain almost a stone and a half due to fluid retention (fat cow)!

DAY 7 – FRIDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2009 (NOW DAY ZERO – LOL)
STEM CELL REPLACEMENT DAY – MY NEW BIRTHDAY
All went well and continues to do so.
I did manage to get a couple of hours (literally 2!) free in the morning so I was really bad!
I jumped in a cab outside popped home n had a HUGEEEEEEEEE squeeze of my boys – quick coffee with Carol n Shelia and popped to Tesco and came back to the hospital for my Stem cell replacement (given via IV drip)in the afternoon.
I think I could have got away with it but I could not resist the urge to purchase some Krispy Kreme donuts for the ward and the day unit – I think that was when they began to enquire as to where have you been?? lol – but hey – I think I got away with it lol.

So now we just sit back and wait – feeling ok but any day from today to next weekend all my blood counts will start to drop I shall be very unwell and get neutropenic (i.e. no immune system and in isolation and very open to infection anf just generally feeling like sh**e!)
Then it is just a case of getting over that waiting for the bloods to slowly rise and start to climb the ladder back up.
Its not gonna be easy I doubt but hey I am in wonderful hands I have you all out there routing for me – and HEY I GOT 2 BIRTHDAYS Now! …………… NUFF SAID LOL

Lovin ya all

Today is THE DAY!! - TRANSPLANT DAY :-)

Well its finally here transplant day - which in medical hospital terms now becomes DAY 0 (zero)and 2moro day 0+1 and so on.

So you will have to excuse me if I use those terms from now on but this hospital jargon is kinda catching.

Also gotta say a Hugeeeeeeeee HAPPY TO YOU DAY to big, big bro Steve - cant wait to get well n outta here and come and see you and Jane and Maddie - and we can have day fishing - will be cool :-), have a good day and enjoy your dinner out 2nite - love to all.

Well wot can I say .............

Thank you all so much for your comments - especially you Jill n Bruv No2 - have just screamed with laughter think the nurse thought I was having another reaction to the ATG.

Yes had a bit of a reaction yesterday so didn't feel very well, surprisingly none of the symptoms Jill describe PMSL.

Feeling a much brighter little 'bunny' today ........ ummmmmm can ya get bald bunnies??

Had a bit of a shock this morning - saw a man outside my window ................ I'M ON THE 8TH FLOOR!!!! think he is ok and not a stalker - will let ya know lol

The staff here are fab - well they have to be for putting up with me!
And Carol for feeding and generally amusing the boys whilst I am in here and the other million and one things she does, sometime she does things in my house and it takes me weeks to notice lol - I would be absolutely lost without her - I hope Stuart or Julie - passes on or reads this message to her cos she is a *************star ************

Doctors just been round happy with me so thats good - still have a weight gain issue with all the fluids they are pumping into me but may not get a many fluids today and a more or that nice little injection to make me pee loadsssssssssssss!!!!! so that should drop a few kilo's (2.25 pounds to a Kilo ok :-) its all metric here lol.

Singing off for now Baldy Bunny P xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ummmm Rabbit for dinner............ PMSL!!!

Hi all

No - not really having rabbit for dinner - The ATG (a type of chemo stuff I'm having later) comes in 2 forms one contains horse and one contains rabbit.
Oh by the way just to clarify I ain't gotta eat it, its a rabbit by-product and I get it via a drip into my line, just in case someone thought otherwise lol - I'm having rabbit, not mt choice just the one im being given, I think I ordered sausages for my actually dinner - so don't think I will get confused!

Im am feeling ok just the normal crohn's stuff - no ill affects as yet from the chemo - but they are on the way, maybe by the weekend? who knows lol but I will be the first and I shall share my joy with you all lololol

Will try n update later after my rabbit n sausages n if no ill affects from the ATG!!
luv to all
Baldy P (but still with eyebrows - but not for long!!) xxxxx

and a hugeeeeeeee GOOD LUCK to Andy for 2moro!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Waiting Waiting Waiting!

Well not alot to report - except I have a dry socket lol my tooth cavity, so got some stuff n hopefully eventually it will heal and I can be transplanted - also picked up a bit of a sniffle - so definately not going in this weekend - maybe the next one (10th.)

But I have not been idle with Bruv No 2's help decorated the little hallway at the weekend and it does look rather nice - considering it was all bargin basement paint n paper from b&q - wallpaper £5 each (reduced from about £15-£20) and 2.5 litres of Dulux satin Wood paint for a pound!! reduced from about £30!! wey hey - happy days! also picked up 5 litres of silk emulision for £2 so may do the lounge next ............................. next year that is lol

Well should anything exciting or dramatic happen I shall let ya know.

The transplant due from platform ........

Is delayed!!!!

Had my tooth out - but the infection is still there so my transplant has been delayed as they don't wanna run the risk of it flaring up whilst Im having chemo - fair enough it is an unnecessary risk so maybe next week or the week after.

I had my Hickman line fitted on Wednesday and must thank the lovely Claire for arranging sedation cos that would have bloody hurt without it!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway feel a little like Frankenstein's monster with a tube in my neck and coming outtta my chest with 3 little cannula type things hanging off it lol - SO ATTRACTIVEEEEEEEEEEE!!
Only the bolt thru my neck is missing!

So I ran round like a looney for most of the week getting stuff sorted - and now I get a least another week to trash the house and start again lol.

Let ya know summat interesting when I do lol unless you got summat interesting to share with me?????????????

Dental Issue ............ Grrrrrrr

My bloody abscess came back over the weekend and my dentist is not keen to touch it due to chemo - its never easy is it!
Got more anti-biotics - spent 4 hours at the hospital emergency dentist yesterday - oh wot joy! and gotta go back today to have the tooth removed this morning and more IV anti-biotics.
Also have an appt with Claire (transplant nurse) gotta drop off a 24 urine sample - wow I get to do some great stuff!! and Rachael (dietician) this afternoon - ummmmmm hair loss and tooth removal well that wont do the weight issue any good will it, better wear some heavy clothes lol.

I have had one or two strange looks wandering round with my bandanna's on - people who know me but not too well don't know about the treatment I have opted to go through have looked and kinda smiled oddly - almost sympathetically, haven't noticed anyone purposely avoiding me yet - thinking the worse and that I have cancer, its kinda a strange situation but I am sure it will happen, I suppose its an obvious assumption but still kinda strange.

My friends on the other hand have been great - shouts of 'Oi Tuffy' and 'oooh that reminds me I haven't had a boiled egg for ages' and various other things - they are all digging out their kids fuzzy felts to make me some eyebrows for when they fall out lol oh and just to clarify so far the ONLY place my hair has not started to fall out is my ............................... ARMS!
I know you are all dying to ask lol - but hey got another week of some serious chemo to come so suppose it will all go then.
Love to all
A still chilly Baldy P xxxx
